  1. Well done Kram!  For years, when we lived "up north" our home chapter took part in a long-standing bike run tradition called "Brightside's Toy for Joy".  It has been going on for close to 30 years now and is a real part of the community, with hundreds standing along the route to wave and cheer the riders on.  I am sure that yours is going to grow too as there is always a need for help for those less fortunate and - let's face it - bikers are always looking for a "reason to ride"!  Merry Christmas!

  2. Small correction - the sand jar (which began somewhere around 7-8 years ago) is emptied out at the end of each year's relay.  This year, the sand will come from the Pacific side and be emptied into the Atlantic side - next year reversed, etc.  Here's a pic of the jar as it was filled on a Rhode Island beach in anticipation of traveling across the US from 2015.  The Long River Riders led the charge that year.

Maybe the Baton can make a world tour! Have as many chapters take pictures with the baton.

Our European brothers and sisters are planning their very first "tour" this year!  They've dubbed it V2E (Victory to Europe) and the planned start date is when ours ends - thus "keeping it going".  Mark Vickers can give you more information on it.  And they are having a second baton crafted I believe!

  4. JUST WANT TO SEND MY GREETINGS TO EVERYONE WHO IS ATTENDING OUR 2020 NATIONAL RALLY AT JOHNSON CITY, TENNESSEE.  ALTHOUGH ARNOLD AND I HAD PLANNED TO ATTEND BUT COVID CONCERNS (AS WE ARE IN A HIGH RISK CATEGORY) HAS KEPT US AWAY.  OUR NATIONAL RALLIES ARE ALWAYS EXCEPTIONAL AND ENABLE EVERYONE TO GET TOGETHER WITH FRIENDS AND FELLOW RIDERS THAT, IN SOME CASES, THEY DON'T SEE THAT OFTEN, AS WELL AS ENJOY RIDING IN AREAS OF OUR COUNTRY THAT ARE ALWAYS MEMORABLE.  HOW WE BOTH WISH WE COULD BE THERE WITH YOU!  WE ALWAYS ENJOY SEEING ALL OF OUR FELLOW VMC MEMBERS AT THESE GET-TOGETHERS AND REALLY MISS NOT BEING ABLE TO THIS YEAR - BUT I'M SURE YOU ALL WILL CARRY ON AND HAVE A GREAT TIME!  ENJOY!  BE SAFE!  HAVE FUN!  AND WE'LL SEE YOU NEXT YEAR AT THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE VMC RALLY!

  5. Thank you for such an informative and forthcoming report Craig!  It certainly is helpful to know "from the source" what the planning and precautions that are being taken .   I feel very badly for all the hard work you all have done that probably will be somewhat negatively affected by this damn virus.  As of now, we are in a hold pattern and will wait until the deadline of August 5 to make our final decision as probably are some others who were looking forward to this meet.  Whatever we decide personally I certainly wish you all the best with safety and good health for all.

  6. Hi there!  Well - hubby and I signed on early for this one and the plan was to ride the BRP along with in and around Maggie Valley before heading over to Johnson City.  Up to now, it appears that the organizers are full steam ahead with planning and preparation for our 2020 National Rally.  However - this morning I hear that the Covid cases in Tennessee are rising dramatically and that the Governor has extended a State of Emergency Order through to August 29, part of which discourages gatherings of more than 50 people.  I know that you folks have put in a lot of hard work and time in this event, and if I were in your shoes I certainly would not want to postpone or cancel.  But safety should be paramount don't you think?   What are the thoughts/leanings on this?
