  1. We took 5 days to circle Lake Michigan travelling between 200- 280 miles per day as we did a lot of sightseeing – the entire route being around 1300 miles. We did this one clockwise, spending some time at the Village at Grand Traverse where we visited a former state run asylum. You could spend an entire day here with all the history. The asylum’s construction consists of 8 million bricks that took less than 3 years to build…..what a remarkable feat for 1883! Glen Arbor was one of the prettiest most serene places I think I have ever been, such a quaint town with a lot going on and so beautiful, being on the shores of Lake Michigan. Glen Arbor is home to an olympic size cherry spitting pit and lots of restaurants and shopping can be found within walking distance if you stay over night in town. Homestead Dam in Benzonia was a nice rest stop where we saw some fishermen and a lot of fish trying to jump the dam to head upstream. Muskegon was a place we stayed overnight and it is the birthplace of snowboarding . You can also find a Buster Keaton statue close by if that is of interest to you. The Michigan Maritime Museum was an interesting place and an inexpensive at a cost of $8 an adult. Home to 5 on-water fleets, the tall ship was just spectacular. Unfortunately after visiting the location for the Ferris Bueller movie’s garage scene in Highland Park my bike wouldn’t start. After pleading with Randy’s Cycle to send someone out with a regulator he did. I was certain that was the problem as I had left Ontario with a brand new battery. 3 hours or so later and we were back on the road, new regulator and another new battery…….good to go! We visited Mary Nohls historic house in Milwaukee, Wisconsin which features numerous cement sculptures outside but they have since been dismantled and possibly shipped to Sheboygan to be displayed at the Michael Kohler Art Center as was discussed years prior (this would need confirming). Kewaunee County Jail museum is a great place to spend an hour or so. While you are in the area nearby I’d recommend taking a look at the worlds tallest grandfather clock – standing 35’11” tall, chimes can be heard on 1/4, 1/2 and full hours. . Us Coast Guard Canal Station in Sturgeon Bay was a nice place to stretch your legs, with history of the area throughout. Wequiock Falls is a small waterfall you don’t have to hike to and is within a small park, great picnic spot with washrooms. The 45th parallel marker can be found continuing north on US 41 just before Marinette. Another fabulous trip full of exciting adventures. Lake Michigan Circle for the VMC.gpx
  2. We took 7 days to ride this 1168 miles (1879kms) riding it clockwise to first see the Charlotte Genessee Lighthouse Museum in Rochester, NY which is the oldest surviving lighthouse on Lake Ontario. The worlds largest six pack of Labbats Blue beer was an attraction we rode to and stopped at breifly for a pic in Buffalo. The Erie Maritime Museum was a great place to visit with lots of very interesting exhibits and since we were there the Bicentennial Tower offered some nice views of Presque Isle Bay and Lake Erie. Rode on to Huron, OH and stopped by the Marblehead lighthouse on the way to Put In Bay. It's worth leaving the bikes and taking the ferry to Put in Bay where once on the Island you can rent a golf cart and tour the entire island. There are shops, restaurants, etc and it is also where you will find Perry's Monument which is a 372 ft tower that commemorates the Battle of Lake Erie. Rode on to Sandusky to check out the Merry Go Round Museum, the highlight was seeing a fella hand painting one of the horses to be used on a merry go round. Nice ride along Lake Erie to Taylor, MI rest of the ride for us back to Ontario was all highway without any more attractions. Lake Ontario-Erie for the VMC.gpx
  3. This is the route that has the best of everything and the most beautiful views of the grandest of the 5 great lakes. We clocked 2,137 miles round trip, taking 7 days to enjoy this trip but could have taken longer as there is so much to see. We broke up our days riding to average 300 miles so we had time to take in some sights along the way. Point Iroquois Lighthouse at the entry to St Mary's River boasts a nice view of Lake Superior and Tahquamenon Falls were a beautiful spot for a break. Gooseberry Falls State Park has more outstanding waterfalls and breathtaking scenery on the north shore of the lake. The Terry Fox Monument in Thunder Bay is nicely done and there is a lookout there as well. Aquasabon Gorge in Terrace Bay, ON is worth seeing as is Young's General Store in Wawa, ON where they have something for everyone. Our final day of riding took us to the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre an interesting place for any age. Lake Superior for the VMC.gpx
  4. This is an 1189 mile route with numerous attractions to see along the way. Routes have been broken down into 250-280 mile days. We took 5 days to enjoy this trip. Stopping in at the Soo Locks Visitor Centre and climbing the Tower of History in Sault Ste Marie, MI. Some attractions along the way were Presque Isle Lighthouse, on the North shore of Presque Isle Park in Erie, PA,, Wilson's Cheese Shoppe in Pinconning, MI. Mike Weir Park and Huron Historic Jail in Goderich, ON were a few of the other sights we visited. Lake Huron Circle.gpx
