psimpson
Welcome to all who are riding east from Fort Morgan. I'm looking for interest in stopping here: https://stfrancismotorcyclemuseum.org/home We stopped in 2019 and it's a great way to spend an hour. If everyone has seen this I will take a different route to the North along the Republican River on Highway 34. Either way we will stop at the Elephant in Hoxie for lunch: https://theelephantbistrobar.com/ Our place at Lake Wilson consists of 2 structures, the house has 4 separate bedrooms in the basement and has plenty of room. The bunkhouse has 2 bedrooms 1 consisting of 1 queen, 1 twin and 2 full size beds. the other has 2 queen and 2 twins. Nice big shower with enough room for 2 at a time if you want to save water! If you plan to make this leg or are coming from KC to ride the next one, please contact me about arrangements.
DirtyTwin
Wazzup buttercup? I think either route is good, St Francis is always a great stop, no matter which way you go I am fine with it. If there is room at Lake Wilson for 1 tree hugging hippie, mark me down, (pretty sure you could get at least 3 in the shower), water is not a renewable commodity, the more we save now..... As you know I live to chuck dirty wrenches into clean machinery! Can't help it, it's just what I am good at!,,,but I believe the Elephant is closed on a Sunday, which is the day we are leaving the world center of feed lots, (Ft Morgan), and heading Mrs Simpsons place!! psimpson
I called the Elephant and unfortunately they are closed on Sundays. If we stop at St Francis we may stop and eat sooner or maybe have a small reroute. Thanks for the eagle eye Graham Edited April 21, 2021 by psimpson added picture 1

But I can bring a one-person sleeping bag if it will help.

Longshot
I like Hwy 27 from Haigler to St. Francis, it is a great perspective on the high plain between the rivers, and a great road with two (2) large curves in 18 miles. Of course if you are not stopping at the museum, Hwy 161, with the hills just south of 34, then the very flat plain leading into Bird City is spectacular, in my view.
psimpson
Thats how we are going. There is a lot of interest n the museum, otherwise I would go east to Benkleman, maybe even to Culbertson and come down through Herndon but not this year.

Longshot
Trenton to Atwood is pretty too, especially when the lake is full. A few years ago during wheat harvest I returned from Norton, KS to Greeley and was run off the road by a combine coming my way; ...I had just been cutting wheat for a couple weeks myself and couldn't understand what caused him to do that. When I take 385 south from Wray I can't help but "open it up" through the large valley there. I always set the "maximum speed" on the GPS right there.
