Bug_Eater
If an annual set location is desired, go to the AVR. It's in the same place every year and the weekend, I believe is the same every year. If that is not good enough, you can go to one of the regional events, which are usually set weekends. As for national, I LOVE that it moves around. As has been said, it give us an opportunity to see other parts of the country. If the date was the same every year, it might exclude an area due to other local events for that area. This years national meet allowed me and 12 others from 3 different chapters to ride together to the northwest part of the country and hit Sturgis on the way home in the same trip. If the dates were spaced out, not sure if we would have had as many go with us. Not every year is that going to work out this way. But let me just say that I think it was a trip of a lifetime. We saw about as much as you could see in 2 weeks go to and coming from. We just didn't have enough time in Sturgis to do all we wanted to do. That'll be a another trip. Maybe in 2 years for the Sturgis' 75th anniversary... I would urge the BOD to keep the flex dates and location for the national meet. It would be great if we could get the location determined 2 years out, but that is me being selfish.
FastFred
I can see both points but Golfer you are way out of line. 1st I have been riding down to the SE rally the past couple years and we have made a lot of great friendships. I like the fact that I can plan that trip years in advance and we are booked again next year. One of the problems I see is how many times do you ride the dragon or take pic's at the bridle veil. If it wasn't for the people we have meet I would have changed plans. But I also like the ability to travel and ride in different locations. We where lucky enough to meet Donna and the sin city riders on our way to the national rally in AZ. I would never had planned a trip to LV and AZ if I did not have the national rally as a set destination. Our LC has hosted a national rally. You would not believe the amount of hard work and long hours that goes into it. So when someone step's up and VOLUNTARIES to do it. I tip my hat to them and say thank you. Let me know that date and if I can go I will. If I can't I hope to see you at next years. But my vote is for options. I like the change. :chpr
Highwayman
We have 3 Big events each year as the VMC. The V2V has a set date, and we travel the Victory Highway route. The AVR is a set date, and place as it is home to where the bikes are made, but the beauty of the National is that it travels, and the host LC gets to work out the details. They get to choose how and when to showcase their region of the country. How many National events have there been? They have all been in different places, and different dates for the most part. We are not Sturgis, Datona, or any other big biker event put on by cities. The date will never work out for everyone. The best part of the national event is that people have chosen to get involved and host this event. The event is announced well in advance for people to make a decision whether they can attend. There are so many choices for events to go to. Pick what works for you and go enjoy it. I am in the camp of keeping this event mobile and flexible. Go ride and enjoy the road. :y:

gunchef
Well, you're not only opinionated, you're a cocky little bastard too! Touche. One of my favorite little cynical expressions is "common sense is the least common of all the senses". I think perhaps it's not misunderstood, it's just missed. Although I still disagree with you on fixing the date for the Nationals, you are indeed correct about truly interpreting an online typed post versus in-person communication. I think your methods are, shall we say, unique, but after you're last couple posts I do believe your intentions are for the Club's good. I hope we get the opportunity to raise a glass. :beer My ex used to call me a knuckle-dragging Neaderfuck, but "Fucktard"? I've got to remember that one. No butt hurt here. I bow to the greater wisdom of the BOD on this.
FastFred
Golfer I have meet you before and understand your tone. Thats not a problem with me. We can laugh about all of this and rase our glasses if you go on the last weekend in May. I have also had a "SMALL" roll in planning a national rally and know how hard planning around hotel openings and schedules can be. We are lucky we have someone stepping up to the plate. By the way. You know people like you when you and your wife get special parking. lol :appl
Kozy48346
certainly pros/cons for set vs. moving date for TheMEET. our Victory Highway Relay (aka,V2V) is date set. AVR is kinda set - but remember Vic Corp can change their date & would we still support a VMC only hosted AVR? (like we did years ago when it started) National MEET - IMO the date should be selected by the Chapter/Region hosting, certainly with an eye on the other VMC national events. those that volunteer to do all the work should drive the bus. host should not have all the responsibility for putting on a good show without the authority to make decisions. Smyte
Out of curiosity ......... how important is it to have vendors at the national meet?
Smyte
The reason I ask is because there is somewhat of a "circuit" we as Victory oriented vendors follow each summer. Putting this event in the middle of July means only more local vendors will come. Sturgis and the AVR are two anchor events most of us attend and this two week gap between the National and Sturgis forces us to choose as they are too far apart to stay out on the road yet too close to warrant separate itineraries. This is just an issue with scheduling and if it is important to have travelling vendors at the event then I would take that into consideration. I have some other thoughts about how we handle the vendors at the events that I would like to discuss as well ..... will need to get back to this thread :)
sjavera
Also we have found that many vendors make their yearly plans a year (or longer) in advance.
Sportsman Matt
Tough part is it goes from Daytona in March to Americade in the beginning of June to Laconia and the V2V at the end of June to the National Meet in July to Little Sturgis, to Sturgis and the AVR in August to Daytona in October. Yup we got rides and events going, and folks like me have to pick and choose which events they attend. I like seeing vendors and reps at events. It is nice to see what they have and pick their minds, have fun and let them know how much we like their products or suggest ideas to make their products better. Biggest thing though, is riding there and being involved. That is what makes it memorable.
