2012 National Meet Problems

First of all I hope that I don't offend anyone! I would just like to point out some problems that I believe will occur because of the choosen dates and hope the dates are changed for the benfit of all the VMC Members.

1. Anyone who has children will have a very difficult time attending a meet due to the beginning of the School year. So that means a older crowd that doesn't have children or husbands going without their wives or vice versa. Just a guess? But I think that will effect 25% of the people who want to attend.

2. Accomadations, Hot Springs AK is a fantastic destination!!! But on that weekend the golfers from all over head there, meaning good luck getting a break on hotels. And this is the main point! Anyone who doesn't get reservations early and right away will never get a room!!! If there is one thing I know folks procrastinate in making these reservations. Some because they are not sure they can make it??? So there will be no way someone can just go at the last minute.

3. Your asking folks to travel across the Country on one of the heaviest traveled holidays of the calendar year! Not a good idea.

I really really hope for a change of dates to a more "Off Peak" and "Central Summer?" Date.

All of this said, I am going to try and make it. I love AR, and will have to fly my wife in for the weekend so she can be at school to teach.

I honestly hope I have not hurt anyone's feelings and humbly hope that the date is reconsidered.

You bring up valid points.  It is IMPOSSIBLE to please everyone, no matter how hard you try.  Planning an event of this size requires MUCH MORE planning than most would believe and we can tell you from very recent experience it gets overwhelming quickly.  Picking a date is only the first item that tics folks off.  We understand that some folks cannot make reservations early and that is a real shame.

The location is another item that will bring LOTS of concerns, no place is perfect and everyone has to understand that compromise will be the name of the gameThe sooner the date and location are made then everyone can begin their individual planning.:chpr

As I am on the planning committee, I will address the dates.  Initially the Meet was scheduled over the holiday weekend, and overwhelmingly it seemed to us that members wanted that weekend.  Actually we have found the hotels we have been talking to not to have a problem that it is a holiday weekend, quite the contrary.  As mentioned before, no matter the dates chosen, there will be some that think there is a better time, this year if the Meet had been in May, I wouldn't had any problem making it, but in August it became quite impossible.

NW Arkansas is awesome! As others have said, the roads are some of the best in the country.

I also LOVE having the meet on a holiday weekend. I wish VITO and FITO were on holiday weekends. It means one less day I need to take off from work. And for me, vacation days are precious (I only have 2 weeks).

Thank you Great Plains Vic Riders for all of your efforts for this event!

Yeah a babysitter would work, maybe if I could find one but the real problem is that I'm suppose to be spending time with the kids on a holiday weekend. You know the X bitch and I rotate holidays every year and next year this one is mine.

I'm thinking about just doing what Bruce did for the SE meet this year. Just bring the whole gang. I have to see what Jodi thinks about that because she would probably be the "babysitter" during the day... Unless I can find someone to come along with us. Hmm, wonder what my niece will be doing....

I do not believe this thread was to flex our muscles about who has the biggest one?

It does however raise some legitimate concerns for many of us.

I teach at the local community college and the timing also affects me in a negative way, having to ask for the first week of the semester off will not be easy.

That said I will hope by some miracle I will be able to attend.

thanx for the link, I will chk it out and see what can be done...I will say though, as the former LC Chairman (in fact I believe I helped you guys get signed up) your chapter has indeed shown what can be accomplished. Its not always about numbers, but participation. One oddity, you're in the extreme NW, and we're in the extreme SE...farthest two points with greatest expanse of mighty good riding inbetween...and yet share highest count of members thus far. Cheers :beer
