MCImoneyman
I don't understand this at all. Are we foregoing the baton pass? I know there was an idea floated to do this over a few weekends but isn't the idea to go across the country not just ride a given leg? lowcountry8ball
What would yo propose, Rick? I have been told that a straight two weeks wold hold down participation
Highwayman
I agree with Rick on this. This historic VMC event is a relay. People know when it happens we'll in advance. The tradition of passing the baton and stopping at the eagle markers along the way as well as the mini meets along the way is what makes it special. If more participation is what this is about, JMHO - moving it to several weekends during peak riding season will not generate more riders as we all have to choose our events carefully. Taking up additional weekends changes the idea of this ride. Thank you for taking the lead on this, and I hope you will consider the V2V traditions as you plan this coast to coast ride. MCImoneyman
I am not opposed to changes, but it seems to me we are throwing the baby out with the bath water. I think there are only 2 or 3 legs that are having a tough time getting riders. The legs East of Kansas City seem to be fairly well attended. The two legs between Kansas City and Denver/Castle Rock are tough recruit riders, it is a very sparse population out there. It is also my understanding that the leg across the desert is also tough. gene hunt
Well there was nothing happening with this and now there is, sorry for introducing new ideas, last year was almost a failure, I know because I participated. Should we delete the thread I started under The Victory Motorcycles Forum? We'll see how this goes when people sign-up to take the legs. As to participation, I did not realize that did not matter, I thought it was a great event to get more members involved, especially when I see how many members are within riding distance of the route. I'll be quiet now. But I did suggest changes that will make the ride better IMHO from Ohio to Stroudsburg and agreed to take those sections. Those changes are Plainfield, IN to Zanesville, OH instead of Hebron, a change of 28 miles but it provides more lodging and food choices. I then proposed that the next leg go to Frederick, Md instaed of Uniontown, PA a distance of 300 miles again better lodging/food choices and also allows us to ride to Ellicott City then head north allowing us to ride the correct route and avoid Baltimore on the next leg up to Stroudsburg to arrive on July 3rd. If this change is not acceptable please let me know and I'll consider how I can participate. Thanks - Gene
c2pin
First of all, Thank you Vohn for stepping up , also thank you Gene for getting the discussions going! This discussion is exactly the input that Vohn needs as he is new at this and needs all the input he can get as to make educated decisions. This is a GREAT VMC event with lots of history and we need to work together to keep it going and to grow the participation. We need all the help we can get so please keep the ideas flowing and the offers to help coming in!!!!! Thanks everyone!!!! Craig.
Bearcat
I'm looking forward to V2V this year (missed it last year) and hope the tradition continues. :tu Breaking up the ride by not doing continuous days might cause some to miss a leg they really wanted to ride. I'm thinkin few riders would be willing to hang out for 3 or 4 days between legs. I understand that some other riders would most likely show up for that next Friday start but what about the passing of the baton? That get together each evening is one of the best parts of the rally (other that the riding of course). :beer :tu :beer Like John (and a few others) it takes me 2 days to get to a start point then 3/4 days on the rally and 2/3 days to get home. I agree we need more riders, I had heard of the V2V for a couple years before I rode it and now I'm hooked. :y: We need more exposure IMHO.... Sportsman Matt
General rule, if it ain't broke don't fix it. The dates have been in place since the start. June 21st to July 4th. Baton pass prior to dinner at each end point for the day. What we need is folks to step up and ride the legs. When you have 3 to 4 people show up and have to ride 2 legs because no one else shows up, that becomes the issue. The other issue is lots of folks are "keyboard muscle" and say they'll show and are a no show. I for one will tell you face to face that if I say I'll do something I do it. That's what we really need, folks that don't just talk but do what they say they'll do, like show up to ride a leg or two or several. gene hunt
I made a committment and I'll do what I said just like I did last year, if the minor route change I made is not acceptable I just need to know, then maybe I'll see what I can commit to from Uniontown, PA. If I have to ride by myself from Zanesville to Stroudsburg I will. What I won't do is end up near Baltimore for the night, before heading to Stroudsburg, PA. - Gene
psimpson
I'm out in the middle of Kansas and will be around this year. I sure wouldn't want to make it take two days to get between Castle Rock and Russell with it being 350 miles. I certainly understand there's not much between KC and Denver...You can count on me to help.
Sportsman Matt
Don't blame you about Baltimore Gene. I don't have an issue with route changes as long as it provides safe riding. My issue is this whole "let's just ride on xxx day and sit on the baton here for a week" Looks like I'll be joining you on leg 13 and possibly leg 12 depending on work schedule. vicdriver
well for those of us that like to ride 3 or 4 legs at a time, this wont work... lets leave it like it was and proceed west to east... R
WGreiner
Last year I really enjoyed the 2 legs I was captain on. Going from Kansas City to Castle Rock was long and hot but I had some great company. The help I got from Rick, Craig, and Tom made a difference. The only complaint I have is the cost I incurred and the heat. Of course Colorado was beautiful and Kansas was dry. Don't take me wrong if there was a fund raiser tied to it then I certainly don't mind expense but I spent over 2 thousand and most of the people we met knew nothing of it and there was no publicity to speak of from VMC and none from Victory. 600 dollars of that was my fault as I borrowed a Victory from dealer that subsequently suffered damage by this idiot along the way and I agreed to pay to fix, which they did at cost. When the dealership and I contacted Victory about their support they said their only sponsored event in that area was the AVR a week prior. I am hoping the Victory OCTANE is as good as it looks but not sure I could do that many miles on it. Last year I rode from Cedar Rapids Iowa to Castle Rock via Kansas City both ways. And my Indians are not an acceptable/approved VMC mode of transportation. :) Wayne
xcbubbamom
I have to say that we host either the kick-off or the finish for the V2V and have for some years. it is a pleasure to do so but I have always thought that ending the ride on the 3rd of July rather than the 4th might be a better choice. That way folks could get home for the Independence Day celebration with family and friends and have a day to relax.
