gene hunt
I see that no one has taken the route from Annapolis to Uniontown, so if I take the two legs I would modify the route to be more in line with the original route picking up 40 in NJ, then following it where possible but skirting around the high congestion areas like Baltimore for example. - Gene
wvrider
I'm with Gene, 40 doesn't run through Annapolis, ,,,,,if we are thinking out loud
gene hunt
I have been doing research and cannot find any info on the Victory Highway route from Stroudsburg,PA south to NJ. I intend to follow the route that was followed after the late 20s, namely the National Road, US40, once I get down to NJ and ending leg 2 at Catonsville, MD. Any help from others would be appreciated. For those planning to ride this leg with me I'm currently working with a Hotel in Catonsville for a rate, once I have that I will post Hotel info. Thanks - Gene
Sportsman Matt
Gene, talk to Arnold aka XC Bubba. He led the ride back from Annapolis to East Stroudsburg PA. I think the reasoning was we have dealer support at the half way point (Trumbauers) and the end (Chesapeake Cycle) Plus the folks wanted to go to a Crab Shack down in Annapolis for dinner, and the hotel was less than 1/4 mile from the dealership. Hope this helps.
gene hunt
Hotel Info: Holiday Inn Express, 5701 Baltimore National Pike Catonsville, Maryland 21228 United States Call 443-251-2000 to make a reservation, Group Rate, Victory Motorcycle Club, is $109. There are other hotels nearby for cheaper rate but reviews were not good. There is an Applebee's down the road for food and adult beverages, other food options nearby as well. I have a route from XC Bubba that I'm checking out to get down from Stroudsburg, but it looks like I'll be by myself so maybe it doesn't matter what route I take. - Gene
soonerboy
Gene, I might be joining you for both legs, but I will be staying at my house instead of at the hotel. Is there any particular reason to not go to Annapolis? I know Mike, the owner at Chesapeake Cycles was planning on doing something for it this year, but if you aren't even going down there, I'll let him know not to worry about it. gene hunt
I was on the route 2 years ago from Annapolis for 3 legs, I did not quite understand why it wandered away from the National Road but it was a nice ride. I asked multiple times why the route went to Annapolis since the Victory Highway had changed in the early 1920's to follow the National Road out of Baltimore. I finally got an answer that it was done since the local chapter(CBVR) was running leg 3 and there was a supportive dealer(Chesapeake). I coordinated with WV Rider and we did not see the need to go to Annapolis, Monday the dealer is closed and CBVR was not involved, so we decided to take it back to the National Highway route. I purchased a book on the National Road and there are some interesting things to check out up in Ellicot City as well as along the route west to Uniontown. I did get a route from XC Bubba down from Stroudsburg to Catonsville which I'm going to check out and probably use. - Gene
Guest
Sounds good, Gene. I'm once again hoping can jump in on this leg this year.
soonerboy
Gene, I am the president of the CBVR. None of the current members have done the ride which is why nobody stepped up. If you notice, I am the first one to respond to the post for leg 3. This is the first time I have done the ride which is why I didn't volunteer to do it. So the CBVR is still active with the process. That being said, I'm not trying to make an argument to go to Annapolis, was just curious as to why. Hope to have a fun and interesting ride. Are you going up the night before to do this leg of the ride? If so, I might ride up with you if you don't mind.
gene hunt
Yes I am going up the night before, looking forward to the trip up and then back down and over to Uniontown on the next leg. Great if you want to tag along up the day before, I plan to make a day of it, We can coordinate a meetup spot I have not decided the route up yet. Where will you be starting from? I'm leaving town for the weekend, headed to the Springfield Mile Race early tomorrow morning, I will be back Monday night. - Gene

gene hunt
Cool, I hope to go up and check out our route maybe on 6/6. If I can do it in 1 day, I plan a different route up then the route south from the hotel. - Gene
gene hunt
I rode the route this weekend, went up to Stroudsburg then down to a HI in Frazer Saturday, then completed the route today. Only need to make a few changes there is a detour on Rt. 372 between Coatsville and Parkersburg that we can easily get around and I made a jog to incorporate Rt. 24 down past Rocks State Park then to RT.23. Big change will be the Hotel, I was not at all comfortable in the area around Catonsville and with the recent unrest in Baltimore I'm looking to move the hotel up to Ownings Mill. From there we can take some back roads down to Ellicot City, cool historic stuff to take a qucik look, then onto the Old Natiional Road. Lots of the old stone mile markers along the route west, enjoyed trying to find them. I would like to start an offlibe email thread with the principals, Soonerboy, WV Rider, XC Bubba, and Sportmann Matt to coordante. If that is okay with everyone? - Gene
